Schwab Charitable donors have three effective ways to give to causes, regions, and crises throughout the world: 1.) Give to U.S.-based charities doing international work. 2.) Give through intermediaries that facilitate direct grants to international charities. 3.) Give directly to qualifying foreign charities through the the Schwab Charitable Direct Global Giving Program (open to all account holders, regardless of account balance).
The most common contributions are cash and appreciated unrestricted publicly traded securities, including stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), mutual fund shares, and bonds. Appreciated non-cash assets—such as restricted or privately held stock, private equity, hedge funds, real estate, and tangible personal property—are accepted on a case-by-case basis.
Primary account holders can appoint up to five people to serve as secondary account holders. Each account holder (both primary and secondary) has full and equal account access and advisory (not ownership) privileges.
Schwab Charitable is independent of any religious or political organizations.

Schwab Charitable requires that its total annual grants in aggregate must be at least 5% of the average net assets of all accounts (on a fiscal five-year rolling average basis).
A grant must be made at least every 2 and a half years.
Schwab Charitable will not make grants to private non-operating foundations or non-functionally integrated supporting organizations as defined by the IRS. Other restrictions may apply.
You can customize your donations with personalized grant letterhead—featuring the name of your account—or choose to remain anonymous.
