Donors at AEF who desire to make direct donations to a foreign charity have many paths available to them: 1.) If there is a US intermediary, AEF will make the grant to the intermediary for the purpose of funding the intended project. 2.) If there is no US intermediary found then AEF will enlist the services of its partnerships with CAF America or GlobalGiving. 3.)If the foreign charity is determined to be an equivalent of a US public charity, then AEF can directly process the grant.
AEF is very flexible in accepting and holding a wide variety of assets, from cash and publicly traded securities to complex assets including privately-held C-corp and S-corp stock, real estate, life insurance, interests in LLCs and LPs, etc.
Each AEF DAF must name at least one Donor-Advisor serving as initial donor of the fund. Additional advisors can also be named at the start of the fund. Advisors have equal & joint privileges over the recommendations of the fund.
AEF is independent of any religious or political organizations.

There is no tax code requirement for DAF donors to meet a minimum payout requirement.
A grant must be made at least every 3 years.
Individuals, private non‐operating foundations, and non‐functionally integrated Type III supporting organizations are not eligible to receive grants from AEF.
During the grant recommendation process, the donor will select how they would like to be acknowledged by the charity. Options include by fund name, donor name(s) and address, both fund name and donor name(s) and address, or to remain anonymous.
AEF is unique among many DAF sponsors in that they do not offer investments you must choose from. Instead, AEF offers a neutral platform for investment flexibility. Because AEF is not the charitable arm of a financial firm, they allow donors and their financial advisors to manage the assets as they wish, following AEF’s Investment Policy Guidelines when recommending investments.
Assets can be transfered to another DAF sponsor that is also a 501(c)(3) charitiy.
